TBR_6 & Alone World

I just want to clear this up, some people were confused apparently. "TBR_6" means The Big Room Patch 6. Not that I have made 6 different versions of this game lol.

Anyway, so recently I been playing a lot of games more than developing because I was really tired of the non-stop days of scripting, But now that I am back to it I have some really cool stuff to show you guys.

First, Substances

I worked on this new thing called "Substances" it basically takes the depth and shadows of a 2D image and helps make it 3D, I have used this technique on a few things.

The Test Scene for my 2 Substances (Brick & Roof)

The Room there is just a setup scene I made for testing substances only.

Using a light I have managed to show my new Substance skills with a Brick wall & Roof.

This new Substances system will allow for 100% Top Quality Graphics. It makes things look actually there, walking up to the bricks, it actually seems like there are a bunch of bricks there casting individual shadows and having individual depths, even though in reality its a single image.

Also I decided to bring back up my old blog just so I can look at it as a reference for how I have come so far. And I found a really good post I made a while back that shows how my skills have developed.
"Let's Take a Review"

It showed how the game "Alone World" Developed over about the time of One Month, and to me its astonishing how far I have gone. From Triangles and squares, to this.

Also looking back on my old Alone World game I see a lot more potential than I saw at first, in fact I might just decide to redesign the game and continue its production, who knows.
Go ahead and give me your opinion on some things on the Polls below!

TBR_5

[This patch contains No Pictures, and is very long, if that bothers you please skip it]
As usual I optimized the Networking again, All the versions so far, movement was very "Jittery". It was basically saying that this is where your character is, tell that to the server, then send it back to the clients. And that made kind of a laggy, and jumpy feel to the game. Using a better system, I now have a script that kind of "Guesses" the way your character is going and makes the transaction really smooth. The servers are syncing very well, so I can officialy say that the Networking of the game is going Fantastic.

I have run into a problem (That I did try to hide) In TBR_4 You will notice that I got a screenshot of two people facing to the side, this is because the Animation system is no longer working. It just seems to have broke all of a sudden. Not sure why, but I will get to the bottom of it. Right now it looks like each of the characters body parts are floating away from the body.

Some planned features is adding Faces, as well as some Character Customization.

I did get the legos to snap together a little, so now building with them will become possible. I have already setup a test house for it too!

"So this will be like GTA, where you can do any thing to a certain extent" - Robofighter1000
-I am not sure what you mean by this, the plan of the game is it to be a "mess around" game. Do whatever you want, but every thing you do has an effect. I plan to have the different Nations and races of the Toy World. the "Stuffed Kind" which of course would consist of Stuffed Animals. the "United Legos", pretty self-explanitory name. Things like that.

You will be able to make friends or enemies with each Nation and race, as well as I hope to maybe create a Job system, so it's not all about war, for the players that prefer to run a store or things like that.

And as for a Beta Test day, I think that when I get the Inventory system created and Optimized, as well as add items and weapons, that I should by then have the Open Beta up and running.

Also, another reason why I do not have an Open Beta currently running is due to the fact that I need a little more of a "Regular Audience" so to speak. If I was to do an Open Beta, it would be kind of boring due to the fact that it would be just you on a server. I know that it would be interesting to explore the world and build a little but the real fun is when you get to shoot people and mess around with friends.

Also if you guys think that I am doing something wrong or that I am not adding the correct stuff, go ahead and let me know by taking a vote.  http://www.strawpoll.me/1211108

I put a lot of options there so I would be able to cover what every one wanted (hopefully) If your answer isn't there just leave a suggestion in the comments (This is multiple choice so select as many as you want)

That's all for this patch, hope to see you guys in the next, and feel free to leave a comment!

TBR_4

So today is a really good day. A day that defines a new meaning in all my games. In every thing I have ever created ever in the history of my life.

Today is the day
I
Scripted
CHAT!

Me and some friends messing around :3

That is right! You can now go online and chat with your friends, as well as see when they connect and disconnect. As well as see what type of user they are. Currently there are 3 types, D, V, and A.

"D" - Default Status
"V" - V.I.P
"A" - Admin

Administrators will be able to Kick / Ban people, as well as fly around and turn GodMode on and off. Currently God Mode is working.

V.I.P is the "Gold" membership, an account that has been upgraded and therefore gets bonus features. Currently no one can get upgraded, and no added features come from being different types, but there will be in the future!

"Will you be able to pick up legos and build stuff?" - Robofighter1000
-That's the plan, you will be able to build any thing you want with legos you find. Remember that there will be races like Barbie Dolls, Teddy Bears, and things like that. Your part of the lego race, so if you piss off one race it could destroy whatever you make!

Feel free to leave a comment, and I hope to see you in the next post!

TBR_3

Sorry on the lack of a post yesterday but the cold was still getting to me. Today however I made sure the networking is working properly, as well as showing animations to other players. I also added some more props to the scene that the player can have fun with. Introducing.... LEGOS! :D :D :D

Soon I will be making a whole lego city your character can explore, and interact with too. The whole point of the world is that toys have come to life, and your a lego character.
The brand new lego pile :D

Climbing up some Pencils

Added Features:
  • Legos
  • Animation Networking
  • New Props (Pencil, Legos)
  • Lego Colors (Blue, Green, Teal, Orange, Pink, Red, White, & Yellow)
  • A new chat system that displays when a player is connecting, connected and when a player disconnects.

I do in the next few patches plan to have a fully working chat system for you guys to enjoy!

Sorry to you guys who were hoping that I would have some new weapons for you to see but It is as hot as its been all month outside, so I am going to enjoy it. In the next patch I hope to get some of that done as well as adding some special features to the game.

Feel free to leave a comment, and I'll see you in the next post!

Short stop

I walked one mile to the bus stop, to wait for a 20 minute late bus in 12F weather with wind chills making it 5F.

So let's just say, I was a little cold. My fingers, and really my entire body aren't moving very fast and I keep messing up all the words I type. I have had to retype just about this whole sentence, so there won't be a patch today. I did however get a little work done with the Main Menu, as well as added general props to the scene.

TBR_2

So today I have worked on a lot of modeling as well as creating some better Networking Features.  You can now on the Main Menu pick your name, and there is a full featured multiplayer menu with the ability to join a random match, create your own, or look at the list of servers. The cloud hosts every thing for you, so you never have to have your Port forwarded, the cloud hosts it for you! :D In this way any one can setup a Multiplayer server.

I also added Actions your player can perform. Like jumping, bowing, etc.

The main menu screen which features an overview of the room

On joining the server (The lock icon is showing that this server has no password to it)

The player waving at the camera :D

Tommorow I plan to start on Crafting and Weapons!

TBR_1

So I got a bunch of wholes poked in my "After Earth" idea by experts, so I decided to start a little smaller.

"The Big Room" is the name of the game, and the objective is to survive the 'wilderness' inside a Bedroom. You play as a person less than the size of a penny, and you have to fight off Giant spiders and general insects.

Added Features:
Networking
Movement
A few props

Here's a screenshot:

It's not much right now, but I have high hopes

It will feature being able to collect things like Crumbs and using them to build bases. It will be really cool, sorry to cancel another project but I Promise you guys I will see this one is to be completed!

Welcome to After Earth.

"After Earth" by Bondo Games, Blake Gillman, (BG, BG)
Game Type: Survival / Action / Online
Description: By the year 2143 All of earth was in a World War 3. The world's resources have been nearly completely depleted due to the sudden increase in population. At the start of the war, the earth's population was 30 Billion. By the year 2200 the population of the earth to less than 1 billion. NASA carried a little over 50,000 people and sent them into space for a 7 year journey to a new planet which was thought to contain life, but fate had other plans...

This is the a cut up Description / Prologue of the brand new game project "After Earth". It's the brand new game project I will be working with, and updating you guys on. Let me know what you think of the idea in the comments, and I'll be keeping you guys updated on its progress.

I won't ruin the gameplay for you guys since I plan to make it very immerse and want a lot of it to come to you as a surprise. So enjoy the updates as they come. I will make sure to provide plenty of screenshots.

Feel free to leave a comment, and I'll see you guys in the next post!

One Step Farther

So working more with Networking, I have figured out how to send variables between servers so now players will be able to kill each other! Yay!

Also I have been doing a little more work on "The Bafin Analogy" and I plan to get some info on that up sometime.

It's time we lay the ideas down. We do need to come up with a good game idea, that I can get started on. I have no idea where to start however, (And not to be offensive) But a lot of you guys just came up with quick ideas with no meaning, and really a lot of them didn't make any sense. And most of the ones that did, were poorly explained. So here I am again trying to create a good game idea to create now that I get how Networking and things like that work.

Also I have decided to learn how to create editor tools for Unity, so it will become easier for me to design games.

So hope to see you guys post some well-explained ideas, and give a little thought behind them, and I'll see you in the next post!

Bringing us together

A big step in Game Development is when I gain the ability to bring us together, which is exactly what I have done. I DID IT! I figured out Networking. Now my games will support Multiplayer Features! :D :D :D

Right now it's just a test level that people can meet on and it will say "Failed to conntent to game server" if no one else is on, however it does create one after that error (It just doesn't say so) so don't worry, you are connected!

Also, it is a standalone due to the fact that I am having difficulties creating a WebPlayer Network.

Any ways, hope you guys enjoy the short terrain I whipped up for testing (Based off of the old unturned style) due to the fact its fast and easy to make. See you guys later!

TeamSpeak Discussion

So I think it's time I actually sit down with my followers, and blog go-er's and discuss about some ideas for game development. Maybe get some of you guys involved, so I have asked Nelson to host a 'discussion party' on his TS3 server. We will see how it goes.

Hope to see you guys there, and hope we get some good ideas flowing.

I might have my own channel on his server, I might not, we will see.

Hope to see you guys there, and I will see you in the next post!
